Projects approved under the Small Communities Fund
July 14, 2015 –– Amherstburg, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Residents of Amherstburg and Pelee will benefit from important wastewater and drainage improvement projects thanks to joint funding from the Governments of Canada and Ontario through the Small Communities Fund.
The Town of Amherstburg will use its funding to support the Edgewater Sewage Diversion Project, a multi-phase project that will see upgrades to Pumping Station No.2, Pumping Station No.4, and the Edgewater Pumping Station as well as the construction of a new forcemain and the decommissioning and rehabilitation of Edgewater Lagoon. These improvements will prevent future sewage bypasses, and will support a healthier environment.
The Township of Pelee will use its funding to support drainage improvements, which will include the replacement of the Curry Marsh Drainage System's pump to ensure continued operation of the drainage system. Additional maintenance will also occur on East West and Parsons Roads to improve water flow. This project will help reduce the risks of flooding of local farmlands and vineyards and eliminate standing water by improving storm water flows.
The $1-billion Small Communities Fund provides funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs. Canada and Ontario will each provide $272 million to support projects in communities across the province with fewer than 100,000 residents. This funding will help address local priorities, supporting job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across Ontario for years to come
