The governments of Canada and New Brunswick announced funding for the following three local roads and bridges projects and one drinking water project in New Brunswick through the Federal Gas Tax Fund.
LOCAL ROADS AND BRIDGES
Trites Road Reconstruction
- The project involved the construction of new roadbed on Trites Road, from Whitepine Avenue to Cherry Court. Work also included catch basins, concrete curb and gutter, a sidewalk and an asphalt base.
- Federal contribution: $594,162.
Pine Glen Road, Phase 3
- Phase 3 of this project involves applying a final asphalt seal, which typically takes place in the year following the placement of the asphalt base. This allows time for any settling prior to the final coating.
- Federal contribution: $173,492.
Road Reconstruction and/or Resurfacing
- The municipality has a significant backlog of roads and streets that require upgrades to make them more drivable and much safer. In certain cases, road reconstruction will include infilling ditches and adding sidewalks and storm water pipes.
- Federal contribution: up to $5,965,864 over a 5-year period.
DRINKING WATER
Hillsborough Road Watermain Renewal
- The project involved renewing an existing water main on Hillsborough Road from Harmony Drive going easterly to Manning Road. Work also included a concrete curb and gutter, a concrete sidewalk and asphalt base and seal.
- Federal contribution: $315,000.
Municipality of the County of Guysborough
- The project involves the expansion of the capacity at two wastewater treatment facilities that serve 255 residents. The project will also include the extension of the wastewater collection system along Old Riverside Road by 400 metres. Once completed, the project will increase the efficiency of water treatment systems, reduce overflow incidents and improve protection against property damage from flooding.
- The Government of Canada will contribute up to one third of the total eligible project costs of $1,552,819, to a maximum of $517,606.
