Join Parks Canada and get up-close and personal with wildlife on Parks Day
July 16, 2015 Thousand Islands National Park, Mallorytown Landing Parks Canada
Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds–Grenville, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, invites Canadians to join Parks Canada in Thousand Islands National Park on July 18th to celebrate Parks Day.
Parks Day events will feature fun activities for the entire family and opportunities to learn all about the Thousand Islands with hands-on exhibits. Join Parks Canada at 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to see some of the wildlife that makes our national parks such extraordinary places to visit, featuring Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo’s Endangered Ontario program.
Visitors can also learn about the fascinating world of insects at the Thousand Islands National Park Visitor Centre. Discover the secret lives of insect superheroes and meet live specimens from Montreal’s Insectarium.
The Mallorytown Landing also includes a picnic area and playground, a learn-to-geocache program, art installations and, of course, kilometres of hiking trails. There is also oTENTik accommodations, a boat launch and overnight docking.
Thousand Islands National Park is a great place to visit today, and in the future. The Government of Canada recently announced investments of $7.7 million in the park as part of a significant recapitalization of day use areas and visitor facilities, to help deliver superior visitor experiences while demonstrating Parks Canada’s world leadership in conservation.
Through initiatives like these, Parks Canada is supporting the National Conservation Plan by taking concrete action to connect Canadians to nature and building a community of stewards among Canadians of all ages.
