Municipality of the County of Cumberland Receives Support for Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre
July 30, 2015 – Springhill, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre has been an activity hub for Springhill area residents since 2004. That’s little surprise given the facilities available—an NHL-sized ice surface; a walking track; baseball and soccer fields; basketball and tennis courts and a teen centre. Infrastructure improvements will help the centre further develop its economic and social role in Cumberland County, attracting a wider range of concerts, conferences, trade shows, and sporting events.
Scott Armstrong, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (ACOA), announced today that the Government of Canada is investing $50,000 toward infrastructure improvements through ACOA’s Innovative Community Fund. Keith Hunter, Warden, Municipality of the County of Cumberland, municipal councilors and community members joined PS Armstrong at the event.
Facility improvements include installing a sound system throughout the building, constructing an entertainment stage and upgrading seating in the Common Room, and purchasing portable conference tables.
