On July 26, 2015, John MacDonald, an inmate from the medium-security unit at Collins Bay Institution was found in need of medical attention in the institution’s exercise yard.
Staff members immediately responded and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to Kingston General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on July 27, 2015, at 6:47 p.m.
At the time of his death, Mr. MacDonald, 55 years old, had been serving a sentence of 5 years, 10 months and 16 days, since June 8, 2010 for two counts of Robbery.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
