On July 9, 2015, Aram Hadi, an inmate from the maximum-security unit at Collins Bay Institution was found unresponsive in his cell. Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.
At the time of his death, Mr. Hadi, 25 years old, had been serving a sentence of 6 years and 3 months since July 12, 2010, for Robbery and Disguise with Intent.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.
The maximum-security unit was placed on lockdown to allow staff to conduct a general search. The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates.

Visits have been suspended until the search is completed.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
