On July 28, 2015, Camille Strickland-Murphy, an inmate at Nova Institution for Women, was found unresponsive in her cell.
Staff members immediately began performing CPR and emergency services were called. The inmate could not be resuscitated.
At the time of her death, Ms. Strickland-Murphy, 22 years old, had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 8 months and 2 days, since November 10, 2014 for Robbery – All Others and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of her death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the coroner have been notified, and the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
