Project made possible thanks to New Building Canada Plan
July 2, 2015 –– Shediac, New Brunswick– Infrastructure Canada
Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament for Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, was joined today by the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, and Jacques LeBlanc, Mayor of the Town of Shediac, to confirm $27 million under the New Building Canada Plan for upgrades to Route 11 in the Shediac region of New Brunswick.
The project involves constructing a four-lane controlled access bypass along 6.8 kilometres of highway 11, and twinning the existing two-lane controlled access highway from Route 15 in Shediac to the south side of the Shediac River. Three existing interchanges will also be modified to improve traffic flow between Route 11, Route 15, and the local roads in Shediac as part of the project. This work will significantly improve driver safety and the flow of goods along this key regional transportation route.
The New Building Canada Plan is the largest and longest federal infrastructure plan in Canada's history.
This unprecedented commitment is providing $53 billion to support provincial, territorial and municipal infrastructure, between 2014 and 2024.
Over this ten-year period, New Brunswick will benefit from approximately $866 million in dedicated federal funding, including almost $394 million under the New Building Canada Fund.
