Sportplex arena users will benefit from major renovations
July 29, 2015 - Neguac, N.B. - Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA)
The Neguac Sportplex Arena will be improved thanks in part to Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) funding announced today by Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). Lisa Harris, MLA for Miramichi Bay – Neguac, on behalf of Victor Boudreau, Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, was also on hand to announce funding from the Province of New Brunswick.
The Government of Canada has approved a contribution of $35,199 to improve the Neguac Sportplex Arena, while the Province of New Brunswick and the Village of Neguac are each investing $34,999. The federal funding is part of the up to $16.6 million in funding allocated for projects in Atlantic Canada under CIP 150, announced earlier this year by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Improvements to the Sportplex involve updates to the shower rooms, installation of new water pumps, renovations to various areas of the building including painting, replacing original lighting with energy efficient LEDs, new doors and linking the facility to the municipal septic system.
The national Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is providing up to $150 million over two years to support projects that rehabilitate, renovate and expand existing public infrastructure for communities. It is part of the Government of Canada’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. The program is expected to boost economic activity through infrastructure investments, build community-based partnerships and modernize existing community facilities.
In Atlantic Canada, CIP 150 is administered through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
