Barriers to employment in the booming construction industry will soon be reduced thanks to an investment of more than $130,000 announced today by the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The Government of Canada’s support to Saskatoon Trades and Skills Centre Inc. (STSC) will support the purchase of vital equipment for the Introduction to Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) training program. The industry-recognized program will help meet market demand for skilled workers in the construction trades, while also benefiting youth and Aboriginal people facing barriers to well-paid jobs or having difficulty transitioning to full-time employment.
STSC will purchase an articulating boom lift and a truck to help train workers as well as to transport them to job sites for work experience.
“Saskatoon Trades and Skills Centre is very excited about this announcement today. Once again, the Government of Canada has given us the opportunity to meet industry needs. This new equipment for the centre will create even greater employment opportunities for our students.”.
