Town facility will meet business needs and support economic development
July 7, 2015 – Long Harbour-Mount Arlington Heights, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
The Town of Long Harbour-Mount Arlington Heights (LH-MAH) is developing a training facility in the town, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. Senator Fabian Manning, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), today announced federal funding of more than $730,000 for the project.
The new facility will address the ongoing training needs of companies operating in and around the Vale nickel processing plant. The project includes the renovation of an existing building to provide space for Vale and the local business community to develop employee skills and to hold public gatherings. Government of Canada funding will enable the redesign of the building as well as interior and exterior renovations to improve the facility.
The Town of LH-MAH has been home to numerous large-scale projects for many years. In addition to the current multi-billion dollar Vale nickel processing plant, the Town is uniquely located in a central position to provide support to other major industrial projects nearby, including the Hebron project at Bull Arm, the Husky Energy project at Argentia and the oil refinery at Come-By-Chance.
