Corner Brook Port Corporation renovating former gypsum plant to attract new business in emerging growth sectors

The Corner Brook Port Corporation (CBPC) will renovate an existing waterfront building to support its business attraction efforts, thanks in part to an investment from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), today announced federal funding of more than $1.4 million for the project.
The CBPC will refurbish the approximately 100,000 square foot former gypsum manufacturing plant located at the Port of Corner Brook. The investment from the Government of Canada will assist in making the building suitable for a variety of industrial uses. These facility upgrades support the Corporation’s business attraction efforts which focus on promoting the port’s strategic location, existing port infrastructure, deep water and year-round access to develop opportunities in key economic growth sectors.
The CBPC was established to ensure the growth and development of the Port of Corner Brook by providing a high quality ocean transportation and distribution link to serve the needs of Western and Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. An important part of the CBPC’s mandate is to pursue projects which have the potential to increase activity at the port as well as generate economic activity in the region.

- Government of Canada funding of $1,401,000 was provided for this project through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund.
