Government of Canada Invests in Improvements to Lower Mainland Community Infrastructure

July 24, 2015 – Winnipeg, Manitoba – Western Economic Diversification Canada

Today, the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Industry, Minister Responsible for British Columbia and Member of Parliament for Port Moody–Westwood–Port Coquitlam, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced support of over $1 million for three projects in Port Moody, New Westminster and Port Coquitlam under the Government of Canada’s Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.

In Budget 2015, the Government of Canada announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. The Government committed $150 million for the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, in order to provide significant support for community and cultural infrastructure across the country, as we celebrate Canada 150^th anniversary of Confederation.

The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program will help fund renovations, expansions and rehabilitations to existing infrastructure that provides community and cultural benefits for the public. The Program represents one of several infrastructure-related initiatives that the Government of Canada has undertaken to generate well-being and prosperity across Canada.

The national Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program provides $150 million over two years to be delivered by regional development agencies across the country. It is part of the federal government’s activities to honour Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. Western Economic Diversification is responsible for the distribution of $46,200,200 over two years for Western Canada.
The three projects being announced today total $1.1 million in funding under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, and will help improve existing community infrastructure in Port Moody, New Westminster and Port Coquitlam.
The City of Port Moody will receive $500,000 to rehabilitate the Port Moody Recreation Complex building envelope.
The City of New Westminster will receive $450,000 to upgrade the Brunette Fraser Greenway (BFRG) in New Westminster
The Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam will receive $125,000 to rehabilitate the Sun Valley Spray Park in Port Coquitlam.
