July 30, 2015 –Saint-Isidore, New Brunswick – Infrastructure Canada
Senator Percy Mockler, on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced $1,768,213 in federal funding for water infrastructure upgrades in Pacquetville, Saint-Isidore, and Lamèque. He was joined at the event by the Honourable Denis Landry, New Brunswick Minister of Natural Resources and Minister of Human Resources and Member of the Legislature for Bathurst East—Nepisiguit—Saint-Isidore, André Gozzo, Mayor of Pacquetville, Réginald Paulin, Mayor of Lamèque, and Oscar Roussel, Mayor of Saint-Isidore.
Pacquetville will use the funding to replace the waterproof membrane of the municipal wastewater treatment lagoon, which dates back to 1981 and supports approximately 350 households. Once completed, the project will bring this wastewater treatment facility up to date and maintain reliable wastewater treatment services for residents.
In Saint-Isidore, the funding will go towards the construction of 3.5 kilometres of new sanitary sewers, 4.2 kilometres of forcemain and 2 pumping stations. This new collection system will service approximately 185 properties in this community, thereby significantly improving wastewater services for residents.
In Lamèque, the project involves replacing an aging pumping station. Work includes installing a new discharge line, generator and the required piping. The separation of storm water sewers and sanitary sewers will significantly improve the performance and reliability of the wastewater collection and treatment process.
The projects announced today are among 39 recently approved for more than $85 million in joint funding under the Small Communities Fund in New Brunswick. These projects represent important investments in the drinking water, disaster mitigation and wastewater infrastructure that maintain safe, healthy communities. Once complete, the work will significantly improve key municipal services for residents and help boost regional development for years to come.
The $1-billion Small Communities Fund provides funding for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs across the country. Canada and New Brunswick will each provide $39,363,723 to support projects in New Brunswick communities with fewer than 100,000 residents over the course of the funding program. This will help address local infrastructure priorities and boost economies in small communities throughout the province well into the future.
