Amherstburg, Ontario - July 31, 2015 – Office of the Minister of the Environment, Parks Canada
Jeff Watson, Member of Parliament for Essex and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced infrastructure investments totalling $815,000 in Fort Malden National Historic Site.
This investment will help maximize the use of available space, protect assets that support visitors experiences, and enhance programmes and activities at the site that connect Canadians to our shared cultural heritage. By upgrading Fort Malden’s infrastructure and facilities, Parks Canada will be in a position to better support current partners and stakeholders who host events at our site, while attracting new opportunities for Canadians to connect with our national treasures and exciting stories.
This project is the result of an unprecedented investment by the Harper Government to support infrastructure work in our national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas. This investment represents the largest federal infrastructure plan in the 104-year history of Parks Canada, ensuring these cherished places are protected and secured for the future while also creating and protecting jobs and opportunities.
