Heddle Marine awarded a $2.7 Million Contract
July 15, 2015 - Hamilton, Ontario
The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, announced today that the Harper Government has awarded a $2.7 million contract to Heddle Marine Service Incorporated for important refit and maintenance work for the CCGS Griffon. This is the second contract awarded by the Government of Canada to this shipyard in July.
The CCGS Griffon is a high-endurance multi-tasked vessel and light icebreaker based in Prescott, Ontario. This year, the Griffon celebrates its 45th year of service in the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) fleet.
Funding for this project is provided under the Federal Infrastructure Initiative announced in November 2014. Under this initiative, the Canadian Coast Guard received $183 million for repair, life extension, and procurement of vessels and small craft.
Repairing and maintaining existing vessels will ensure CCG continues to deliver marine safety and environmental response capacity for future generations. This work supports Canada’s shipbuilding industry, ensuring the best value for Canadian taxpayers.
“Our Government has invested more in our country’s Coast Guard than any other government in Canadian history. Not only are these investments supporting CCG personnel, they are also resulting in job creation, economic growth and long-term prosperity in communities like Hamilton and all across Canada.”
The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans
“Our Government continues to deliver on its commitment to give the Canadian Coast Guard the tools they need while creating jobs, growth, and long-term prosperity for hard-working Canadians. This contract will sustain approximately 70 jobs and will contribute to providing the Coast Guard with a modern and reliable fleet; one that will be capable of serving Canadians for many years into the future.”
