In November 2014, the Department of National Defence received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Revitalized defence infrastructure across Canada will provide the Canadian Armed Forces with the facilities they need to support troops, military families and Reserve forces, as well as support operations at home and abroad, and to ensure the health and safety of our men and women in uniform.
The Department of National Defence has identified an opportunity to perform a number of improvements at its facilities across Canada. Over the next two years, $135 million will be invested in projects to repair roofs, siding, plumbing, and heating and ventilation systems.
The Government estimates that accelerated investments will also support the creation of more than 10 000 jobs in communities across Canada by the end of 2016.
The Government will invest a total of $10 million at Wolseley Barracks and at Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Prevost to remodel, repair and upgrade the infrastructure in place at these sites. The projects begin this summer and include:
- extensive work at the Barracks’ ‘A’ Block. This heritage building will be remodelled, including new: walls; flooring; wiring; HVAC systems; windows and doors; exterior siding; and roof. In addition, washrooms upgrades will occur throughout the building, as well as foundation waterproofing, upgrades to the fire-alarm system and replacement of all cast and poured steps at the facility;
- upgrades to the washrooms and HVAC systems, as well as other necessary maintenance work at four other buildings at the Armoury;
- replacement of the parking lot at HMCS Prevost, as well as HVAC and washroom upgrades; and
- exterior and interior renovations at HMCS Prevost’s training facility in Port Stanley.
Wolseley Barracks serves as headquarters for the 31 Canadian Brigade Group (31 CBG), an Army Reserve Formation of the 4th Canadian division. Three 31 CBG reserve units are also based at the Barracks – the 4th Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, 1st Hussars and the 31 Service Battalion.
HMCS Prevost is one of Ontario’s Naval Reserve Divisions located in London, Ontario.
