Defence Infrastructure
The Department of National Defence has received $452 million for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Revitalized defence infrastructure across Canada will provide the Canadian Armed Forces with the facilities they need to provide support to troops, military families and the Reserve forces, to support operations at home and abroad, and ensure the health and safety of our men and women in uniform.
8 Wing Trenton
At 8 Wing Trenton, five projects will be funded as a result of these investments:
Integrated Personnel Support Centre
At Integrated Personnel Support Centres (IPSC) across Canada, the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs Canada work together to provide support to Canadian Armed Forces personnel, Veterans and their families. Important services such as return to duty coordination, outreach and advocacy services are offered at these centres. At 8 Wing, the current IPSC is housed in a temporary location, and a new, permanent facility is required. A $4 million project to construct a 500 m2 building is currently underway, and will be completed by early 2017.
Repairs to Military Quarters on Base
A $2 million project will involve the complete redesign and renovation of washrooms at the military quarters on base. This new design will improve the layout of the facilities to allow for more efficient use. This project will also include a new heating and ventilation system, and the replacement of the incoming water service to better supply the fire suppression system.
Repairs to Buildings’ Trusses Structures
A $2.3 million infrastructure project will begin in 2015 at various aging buildings at 8 Wing Trenton. This project will include the jacking of trusses to repair cracked or split trusses. The project also involves the total replacement of the current roofing system. The roof and truss structures were installed over 30 years ago; this project will ensure these buildings remain safe and in good condition. This project will also involve exterior repairs to the asphalt around these buildings.
Airfield Drainage and Repairs
This $1.5 million project will allow 8 Wing Trenton to identify and address the maintenance requirements of the airfield drainage systems. This work will entail a comprehensive assessment of the current drainage system, and an inspection of the current infrastructure, such as pipes, manholes and catch basins. The results of this study will be compiled in an inclusive report by spring 2016, and the necessary repair work will be completed by early 2017.
Pavement Repairs
A project for roadway repairs valued at $275,000, will re-construct the road with proper grading, newer lanes, curbs, sidewalks and new asphalt, as well as new landscaping. The road will be reconfigured to better accommodate current traffic flow, and intersections will also be redesigned to accommodate some of the newly constructed building at 8 Wing.
