Rath Eastlink Community Centre Receives Support for Planned Improvements
July 30, 2015 – Truro, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Planned infrastructure improvements to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre arena will help the Centre prepare for events more efficiently, further positioning the facility as an attractive venue for major sports competitions, concerts, and trade shows.
Parliamentary Secretary Scott Armstrong announced today that the Government of Canada is investing $104,000, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF), to install black out window treatments, sliding stanchions to remove rink-side glass panels, and storage space for the ice surface covering; and to purchase a stage platform and lift equipment. The Town of Truro and the Municipality of the County of Colchester are each contributing $32,400 toward the work.
The Centre expects to complete the improvements before it hosts Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event in October. That event will welcome well-known athletes from the World Curling Tour Order of Merit.
The Rath Eastlink Community Centre is an accessible, energy-efficient facility boasting an NHL-sized ice surface with bowl seating for 2,500 people, as well as an aquatic centre, fitness centre, and rock climbing wall. The Centre holds a silver level designation in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
