| Edith Cavell Parking Area and Access Road Rehabilitation |

| In 2012, the parking area and access road at Edith Cavell were damaged by a debris flow. Following interim repairs, the day use area was reopened. Now, longer-term measures will be implemented to realign the access road, reconfigure the parking area and build a containment berm to address parking capacity issues exacerbated by the 2012 debris flow and mitigate the risk associated with any future debris flow. |

| The Cabin Lake Dam is an operational facility that provides domestic water storage for fire protection for the Town of Jasper. Cabin Lake also provides recreational activities, including boating and fishing. An engineering assessment of the dam was carried out in 2012 and corrective measures are needed to ensure its long-term integrity. Further work, including dam reconstruction and spillway rehabilitation, will now be carried out. |

| With 780 sites, Whistlers Campground is Jasper’s largest campground. This project will create additional powered sites, upgrade the water and sewer services within the campground and replace campground kiosks. Parks Canada will renovate the building to adapt it for contemporary uses in the summer and winter, as an interpretive centre and rental facility available for a range of events and activities. |

| A number of different buildings in the community of Jasper houses Parks Canada offices and employees, including the Jasper Train Station, a Heritage Railway Station, and the Parks Canada Maintenance Compound. Improvements, such as replacement of heating and ventilation systems, electrical system upgrades and asbestos abatement, will make work places and staff housing more comfortable, efficient and safe. |

This Conservation and Restoration (CoRe) investment advances the goals of the national Recovery Strategy for the Woodland Caribou, Southern Mountain population (Rangifer tarandus caribou) in Canada by taking practical action to support the recovery and long-term survival of local caribou populations found on Parks Canada lands; by engaging Canadians in caribou conservation and fostering a community of stewards through interactive outreach programs and volunteer experiences; and by facilitating high quality and meaningful visitor experiences in the mountain parks to connect Canadians to caribou and the landscapes they call home. Examples of actions in Jasper National Park include caribou population monitoring, collaboration with the Fire and Vegetation Management team to minimize the risk of habitat loss, delayed winter recreational access to protect important caribou habitat, the Caribou Ambassador volunteer program and urban outreach programming in Vancouver and Calgary. |

This Conservation and Restoration (CoRe) investment will take practical action toward the recovery of whitebark and limber pine populations in the Mountain National Parks, and will foster awareness and support for conservation through outreach and visitor experience opportunities. In Jasper National Park, actions include seed collection, planting disease resistant seedlings, using fire to improve habitat for seedling survival, creating tools for urban outreach and an innovative whitebark pine street theatre program for visitors. |

Established in 1907, Jasper astonishes visitors with its vast wilderness, dotted with glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, mountains and deep-cut canyons. Over 2 million visitors come to the park every year to hike, paddle, swim, ski, fish, and take in soothing hot springs, scenic drives and extraordinary wildlife. Jasper, Banff, Kootenay and Yoho national parks, along with three provincial parks, make up the UNESCO Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage Site, celebrated internationally for their striking mountain landscape and one of the most significant fossil areas in the world, the Burgess Shale. With rugged mountain peaks, icefields and glaciers, alpine meadows, lakes, waterfalls, extensive karst cave systems and deeply incised canyons, the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks possess exceptional natural beauty, attracting millions of visitors annually. |
