Projects possible thanks to federal Gas Tax Fund
July 28, 2015 – Caledon, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Residents of Caledon will soon enjoy smoother rides on five local roads, thanks to contributions from the federal Gas Tax Fund. Walton Drive, Cedar Mills Crescent, Palmer Circle, Kennedy Road and Mountainview Road are undergoing significant improvements to help improve traffic flow, increase safety and reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the town while extending these streets' lifespan by several years.
The existing pavement on Walton Drive is being pulverised and resurfaced between Cedar Mills Crescent (west) and Palmer Circle, providing a smoother driving surface and expanding its lifespan. Asphalt overlay is being laid to restore a smooth wearing surface on Kennedy Road, between Highpoint Side Road and Highway 9, and on Mountainview Road, between Beechgrove Side Road and Highway 9, helping to reduce wear and tear on vehicles, fuel consumption, and tire-generated noise on the road surface. Finally, the asphalt on Ingleview Drive and William Street is being grinded, new overlay placed and curbs replaced.
"Our Government is pleased to provide municipalities like Caledon with flexible infrastructure funding that allows them to support projects that address the needs of their communities. These local road improvements, made possible through the federal Gas Tax Fund, will provide a safer and smoother ride for drivers and cyclists, as well as help protect the environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Investments through the federal Gas Tax Fund generate economic growth and job creation across Ontario communities."
