ESQUIMALT, BRITISH COLUMBIA — John Duncan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, on behalf of the Honorable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, today announced three infrastructure investments worth $17.8 million. These investments over the next two years will support the Canadian Armed Forces.
These investments include:
-
An infrastructure project at HMC Dockyard to repair and extend one of two dry dock caissons, which are large watertight gates used to seal the dry dock. The work will be completed over the next two years. The project will extend the caisson and modernize its electrical and mechanical components. This work is essential to ensure the fleet’s future operational readiness.
-
An important investment for Belmont Park will see the construction of new residential housing units and renovations in many existing units. These projects will support military personnel and their families and will enhance the quality of life for those who live in Belmont Park.
-
Another investment will be made to upgrade physical security across CFB Esquimalt’s many facilities. CFB Esquimalt is one of two naval bases in Canada and is home to the Pacific Naval Fleet.
Approximately 4,000 military personnel and 2,000 Department of National Defence (DND) civilian personnel work at CFB Esquimalt and its twin commands – Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific. The projects announced today will ensure the men and women of CFB Esquimalt continue to have the robust and safe infrastructure required to carry out their missions at home and abroad. The projects will also provide a valuable boost to the local economy.
