OSHAWA, ONTARIO – The Honorable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, and Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for Oshawa, today announced $2.4 million in funding which will provide important upgrades and repairs to the Colonel R.S. McLaughlin Armoury in Oshawa and support local jobs and growth in the Oshawa area.
Used as a training and recruitment centre during the First World War, the Colonel R.S. McLaughlin Armoury today houses the Ontario Regiment (Royal Canadian Armoured Corps), an Armoured Reconnaissance reserve force unit of the Canadian Army’s 33 Canadian Brigade Group.
The $2.4 million dollar investment will be used to install new windows, a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system as well as upgrades to electrical and sprinkler systems in support of the Canadian Armed Forces.
“It is my pleasure to be here at the Oshawa Armoury today, among the proud troopers of The Ontario Regiment - one of the oldest continuously serving regiments in Canada - to announce this important infrastructure project. As our Government continues to upgrade Canadian Armed Forces facilities across Canada, we are providing support to our men and women in uniform, and promoting growth and prosperity in communities across Canada.”
