Funding to improve facilities for Canadian Armed Forces personnel in Canada is possible through the new Federal Infrastructure Investments Program
July 15, 2015
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, QUEBEC – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the region of Quebec, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, today announced an investment of $745,000 for renovations at the Général Jean-Victor Allard Armoury, in Trois-Rivières, in support of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). This two-year infrastructure project, which begins this summer, will also help support the local economy and boost job creation.
The Trois-Rivières armoury requires a new roof and other general maintenance and repairs will also take place to ensure the Reservists benefit from a workplace that meets their training and support needs.
The armoury is home to 12e Régiment blindé du Canada, founded in 1871. The regiment is a Reserve force reconnaissance unit, one of 12 units of 35 Canadian Brigade Group stationed throughout eastern Quebec. The Brigade is an Army Reserve Formation of some 2,200 members, which is part of 2nd Canadian Division, Canada’s Army in Québec.
During the Second World War, the regiment set a number of records, including the record for the longest combat period and most battle honours. In recent history, unit members have participated in CAF domestic support missions, such as the 1998 Quebec ice storm, and overseas missions, such as Bosnia-Hercegovina and Afghanistan.
