Canada continues to demonstrate leadership in engaging civil society and private-sector partners in the global fight against poverty

The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, is leading a Canadian delegation, which includes business leaders and civil society representatives, to the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from July 13 to 16, 2015.
At the conference, Minister Paradis will promote Canada’s position on advancing innovative ways to finance the United Nations’ Post-2015 International Development Agenda. As Chair of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s Development Co-operation Directorate and the World Economic Forum’s Redesigning Development Finance Initiative (RDFI) Steering Group, the Minister will address a signature event on blended finance. In support of Canada’s top international development priority of improving maternal, newborn and child health, he will also address an event dedicated to launching the new Global Financing Facility in support of the UN-led Every Woman Every Child initiative, of which Canada is a founding partner.
In addition, Minister Paradis will also represent Canada at the International Business Forum where he will outline Canada’s leadership in leveraging private-sector investment in support of international development goals. On July 17, the Minister will conclude his visit by taking the opportunity to see the results of some projects in Ethiopia that Canada is currently funding.
