Minister Rob Moore and Member of Parliament Keith Ashfield Announce Significant $21 Million Investment for CFB Gagetown

OTTAWA — The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), and Member of Parliament for Fundy Royal and the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Member of Parliament for Fredericton, today announced a $21 million investment for 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown (5 CDSB Gagetown), on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence.

The three projects for 5 CDSB Gagetown include improvements over the next two years to residential housing units ($16 million), and military quarters ($4 million), as well as health upgrades ($1.1 million). This $21 million investment, which will improve the efficiency and reduce maintenance costs at these facilities, will also help support the local economy and job creation in New Brunswick.

The federal infrastructure investments, announced by Prime Minister Harper in November 2014, will build and renew infrastructure across the country, creating jobs and economic prosperity for local communities.
The Department of national Defence has received $452 million for the repair an upgrade of the Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Investments in defence infrastructure across Canada will provide numerous benefits to the Canadian Armed Forces: modern and revitalized facilities will ensure the ability to operate with excellence, and will provide support to our military members our reservists and their families
These three projects at 5th Canadian Division Support Base Gagetown, New Brunswick represent an investment of more than $21 million for the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces related infrastructure. The Government estimates that accelerated investments will also support the creation of over 10, 000 jobs in communities across Canada, including New Brunswick, by the end of 2016.
