MONTREAL, QUEBEC — The Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, today announced investments worth $14 million to improve infrastructure at Montreal armouries and Montreal Garrison to support the Canadian Armed Forces and boost local job creation.
Most of the funding – $12 million – will be used to repair and upgrade six Montreal armouries. The work includes:
- roof repairs and replacement;
- repairs to brickwork and stonework;
- foundation repairs; and
- drainage improvements.
At the Montreal Garrison, $2 million will be invested to upgrade the military quarters. This work includes repairs and upgrades to flooring, washrooms and living quarters.
To support Canadian Armed Forces personnel, the Department of National Defence has identified a requirement to complete a number of improvements to its aging armouries. A total of $135 million will be invested in DND Armouries across the country over the next two years.
