July 15, 2015 - Saint Louis de Gonzague (Québec) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Member of Parliament for Lévis–Bellechasse, and Dominique Vien, Quebec Minister of Tourism, Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches region and Member of the National Assembly for Bellechasse, acting on behalf of Pierre Moreau, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, took the opportunity of today’s inauguration of the wastewater management project site in Saint Louis de Gonzague to announce that an additional $952,772 in funding has been granted to the Municipality, bringing the total level of joint government assistance awarded for the project under the Communities Component of the Building Canada Fund – Quebec to $3,262,978.
“Once the work has been completed, this infrastructure will be better able to meet the needs of the population of Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague. Our communities across the country must be able to rely on quality public infrastructure to ensure their development and rise to the challenges they are facing. That is why the Government of Canada, in conjunction with the Government of Quebec, is providing concrete support for a wide range of projects aimed at improving the infrastructure that is essential to the quality of life in our communities,” said Minister Blaney.
“Our government is dedicated to improving infrastructure across Quebec, which is why I am proud to underscore the beginning of work on this important wastewater collection and treatment project. Our support of this major undertaking is testimony of our commitment to improving community infrastructure in a concrete and lasting way and to contributing to the quality of life and sustainable development of our communities,” added Minister Vien.
The project involves the installation of a domestic sewer system coupled with the construction of a sewage treatment plant. The work will include laying wastewater collection and interception mains to serve users along Principale, De l’Église, De la Colline, Bélanger and Du Presbytère streets and building an aerated lagoon treatment plant with vertical concrete walls in the south end of the municipality, near Principale Street. The project will directly benefit some 175 residents.
It should be noted that the Quebec Department of Transport also invested $1,043,511 for urban planning work along De l’Église Street and Principale Street (Route 277), over a total distance of approximately 680 metres. These operations mainly involved road repairs and the installation of a storm drain system.
