July 29, 2015 - Fredericton, New Brunswick
The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), today hosted a Go Global workshop in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on behalf of International Trade Minister Ed Fast. He was joined at the event by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Member of Parliament for Fredericton. The workshop highlighted the enormous benefits of Canada’s pro-export plan to create jobs and growth, and the support available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to take advantage of new export opportunities in priority markets around the world.
While in Fredericton, Minister Moore announced Invest Canada - Community Initiatives (ICCI) funding of almost $60,000 for the Greater Fredericton Economic Development Corporation and $75,000 for Enterprise Saint John. Through ICCI, the government works with municipalities to attract and retain global investment, creating jobs across the country.
"Through the Global Markets Action Plan, and historic free trade agreements such as the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement and the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, our government is ensuring new opportunities for world-class Canadian products, creating jobs and economic prosperity in New Brunswick and across Canada."
- The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency)
"Our government is committed to working shoulder-to-shoulder with Canadian small and medium-sized businesses to seize export opportunities by bringing the tools, services and information they need to succeed in global markets, which create jobs and opportunities for workers and their families in New Brunswick."
- Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade
"We are pleased that our efforts are being recognized in contribution to New Brunswick’s economic development. The ICCI funding will support our initiatives as the economic driver on behalf of our region’s stakeholders and our work in foreign direct investment. This support is crucial to continuing the growth of our region and building our strong position in the knowledge and innovation sectors. Additional funding means the potential for further innovation in projects both new and current, such as the Start-up Visa program, collaboration with trade commissioners in targeted regions and initiatives in natural resources."
- Larry Shaw, CEO, Ignite Fredericton and Knowledge Park Inc.
"This year, Invest Canada - Community Initiatives is helping us proactively identify new investment opportunities from key trade deals and enhance the promotion of the knowledge industries in the Saint John region. The financial assistance enables us to identify and access more opportunities than we could do otherwise, ultimately leading to more jobs and more investment in our region."
- Steve Carson, CEO, Enterprise Saint John
