Government of Canada supports Cape Breton-themed Retakes & Revelry Studio Start-up
July 30, 2015 – Sydney, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Cape Breton’s cultural tourism offerings in downtown Sydney just got a lot “flashier” thanks in part to funding received through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is providing a $59,325 repayable contribution through its Business Development Program (BDP) to enable Retakes & Revelry Amusement Photography Inc. to establish an interactive, Cape Breton-themed amusement photography studio on Charlotte Street.
The studio, founded by Nova Scotia film and photography industry veteran Patrick Doyle, will feature set designs depicting scenes from Cape Breton’s most famous landmarks, to allow tourists and local patrons to picture themselves in a moment from Cape Breton’s cultural past and present. Once fully operational, the new business will create one full-time job and up to three seasonal opportunities.
Quick Facts:
- Retakes & Revelry will be Cape Breton's first and only conceptual amusement photography studio.
- With unique photography offerings, Retakes & Revelry will focus on tourists, providing a fun studio experience that allows guests to dress up and interact with a set that has cultural relevance to Cape Breton.
- The studio will be located in the Smart Shop Place building at 314 Charlotte Street, in downtown Sydney, drawing on cruise ship and other visitors to the downtown core.
Quotes:
“Our Government recognizes that a sustainable tourism industry is vital to building strong, healthy communities. We are pleased to support Retakes & Revelry as they work to develop an authentic new experience where visitors themselves play a starring role in creating memorable photos of Cape Breton landmarks.”
- Senator Michael L. MacDonald, on behalf of the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency)
“I was thrilled to discover that ACOA has programs designed to assist businesses both big and small. The support I’ve received from the staff there has truly been invaluable. We are excited to begin creating and capturing memories for visitors and locals alike in just a few short weeks.”
- Patrick Doyle, Owner, Retakes & Revelry Amusement Photography Inc.
