NORAD Deputy Change of Office

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO — Lieutenant-General Pierre St-Amand officially assumed the duties as NORAD Deputy Commander today from Lt.-Gen Alain Parent during a Canada Day ceremony held in Colorado Springs. The Change of Office ceremony was presided over by General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), and Admiral Bill Gortney, Commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command.

As a fighter pilot, Lt.-Gen St-Amand has extensive experience supporting NORAD operations. He has served in operational squadrons in Bagotville (Quebec) and Cold Lake (Alberta), and commanded both 441 Tactical Fighter Squadron in Cold Lake and 4 Wing Cold Lake. He has also served as Deputy Commander and subsequently, Commander of 1 Canadian Air Division/Canadian NORAD Region in Winnipeg, Manitoba and most recently as the Director of Operations at NORAD HQ in Colorado Springs.
Lt.-Gen St-Amand is a Commander of the Order of Military Merit and is a graduate of the Canadian Forces College and U.S. Air Force Air War College.
Lt.-Gen Alain Parent will become Deputy Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples, Italy.
NORAD is the bi-national Canadian and American command that provides maritime warning, aerospace warning and aerospace control for Canada and the United States. The command has three subordinate regional headquarters: the Alaskan NORAD Region at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska; the Canadian NORAD Region at Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg, Manitoba; and the Continental NORAD Region at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla.
