Members from Joint Task Force (North) and 1 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group conclude their participation in Operation NUNAKPUT 2015 (Op NK 15) today after 17 days of maritime patrols along the Mackenzie River from Hay River to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories.
During Op NK 15, deployed personnel met with Canadian Rangers, Canada's "eyes and ears in the north," from communities near the Mackenzie River, to share information and knowledge gained throughout the more than 1800 kilometres covered while on patrol. Op NK 15 provided the Canadian Rangers and members of the Canadian Armed Forces the opportunity to exercise sovereignty and to practice interoperability with other government departments through shared training exercises in order to maximize effectiveness in response to safety and security issues in the North.
“I congratulate the Canadian Armed Forces, including the Canadian Rangers, on the successful completion of this operation that once more proves our ability to assert our sovereignty and conduct operations across the Arctic. Canada's Arctic presents unique and challenging conditions and our military men and women and their colleagues across other government departments have once again shown they are ready, willing and able to meet these challenges.”
