Town of Lockeport Upgrades Tourism Infrastructure to Attract New Visitors
July 22, 2015 – Lockeport, N.S. – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency
Lockeport is renowned for its white sand beaches, picturesque seaside cottages and the warm welcome it bestows on visitors. Downtown revitalizations and waterfront developments have already increased tourism capacity. The town is continuing its strategic focus on tourism with the goal of making each visit a memorable and inviting experience. Lockeport's online welcome says it all, "Come for a visit, stay for a lifetime."
Parliamentary Secretary Gerald Keddy today announced that the Government of Canada is working with Lockeport to help it achieve its tourism goals with a $55,000 contribution through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund (ICF).
With this initiative, the Town will continue to revamp its community tourism infrastructure, including upgrading the original boardwalk system and replacing outdated waterfront lighting with an efficient LED alternative. The project will also contribute to the expansion of community murals, the establishment of a directional signage program, and involve refurbishments to Seacaps Memorial Park. These improvements will assist Lockeport in its efforts to attract additional festivals and events, provide tourists with key points of interest, and generate increased tourism traffic for local businesses.
This investment will build upon previous tourism developments to create additional visitor and business opportunities in the historic Town.
