Rotation of troops for Operation REASSURANCE Land Task Force

July 8, 2015 - OTTAWA — Today in Poland, approximately 200 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) soldiers replaced outgoing members of the Land Task Force under Operation REASSURANCE, Canada’s response to the Putin regime’s aggression in Central and Eastern Europe.

The presence of Canadian Army soldiers in the region demonstrates Canada’s commitment to work with our NATO Allies and react rapidly to international crises.

The incoming contingent of approximately 200 soldiers is from the 3rd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment (3 R22eR), part of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (CMBG), based at Valcartier Garrison, Que., and will deploy for six months, continuing CAF training alongside NATO allies.
5 CMBG’s Parachute Company Group of 3 R22eR will take part in exercises to develop and enhance interoperability, readiness, joint operations capabilities, and multinational responses to potential crises.
The outgoing contingent consisted of approximately 200 soldiers predominately from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, part of 2 CMBG based at Garrison Petawawa, Ont.
Based in Poland, Canada’s Land Task Force conducts exercises alongside NATO counterparts in various locations throughout Central and Eastern Europe, which are important opportunities to strengthen military-to-military relationships as well as to promote shared security principles, defence professionalization, and capacity building among the participating nations.
Members of the CAF have been in Central and Eastern Europe since May 2014, and have participated in collective training exercises and partnership engagements with our European allies in Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, and Romania.
Operation REASSURANCE refers to the military activities undertaken by the CAF to support NATO assurance measures through the provision of military capabilities and personnel for training, exercises, demonstrations, and assigned NATO tasks.
