Transfer of a portion of the federal Gas Tax Fund revenues and the Government of Quebec's contribution
July 13, 2015 – Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec – Infrastructure Canada
The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, and Pierre Moreau, Quebec's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, are pleased to announce that the City of Sainte-Thérèse will receive $1,538,000 to renovate and turn an existing building into a cultural centre, which will house a cabaret theatre. The project will be funded under the new federal-provincial Gas Tax Fund agreement and from the Government of Quebec's contribution for priority infrastructure projects.
This new building will include a professional concert hall which meets the new requirements for the audience and performers in terms of accessibility, sound, backstage facilities and technical equipment. The City will delegate the management of the hall's activities to Odyscène Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of the performing arts within the regional county municipality (MRC) of Thérèse-De Blainville.
Under the federal Gas Tax Fund and the contribution from the Government of Quebec, financial support for municipal infrastructure in Quebec will amount to $2.67 billion over the next five years.
The federal Gas Tax Fund provides long-term, stable and predictable funding to help Canadian municipalities build and revitalize their local infrastructure while creating jobs and promoting long-term prosperity. The funding has been extended and the amount allocated has doubled, increasing from $1 billion to $2 billion per year. It has also been indexed at 2% per year and legislated as a permanent source of federal infrastructure funding for municipalities.
