Government of Canada provides funding to five organizations in the Moncton Area

July 15, 2015 – Moncton, New Brunswick – Department of Canadian Heritage

Robert Goguen, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Member of Parliament (Moncton–Riverview–Dieppe), today announced funding of $224,700 to five organizations in New Brunswick. He made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The following organizations will receive funding under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program: the Aberdeen Cultural Centre ($26,200 in 2015–16 and $19,200 in 2016–17), the Permanent Settlers Association ($10,800 in 2015–16 and $86,400 in 2016–17), the Really Local Harvest Co-op ($8,200 in 2015–16) and Film Zone ($29,900 in 2015–16). The Canada Book Fund will provide funding for the Salon du livre de Dieppe ($22,000 in 2015–16 and $22,000 in 2016–17).

Quick Facts

In 2016, the Aberdeen Cultural Centre will celebrate the 100^th anniversary of its construction and its influence on the arts and education. Various activities are planned, including a dance piece in honour of Lady Aberdeen.
Thanks to this funding, the Permanent Settlers Association will celebrate the 250^th anniversary of the first permanent settlement in Moncton in 2016. Planned activities include historical re-enactments, a series of talks on heritage, art exhibits, musical performances and much more.
The Salon du livre de Dieppe will continue to promote books, authors and reading among the general public and young people in the schools. The 25^th edition of the event will be held on October 22 to 25, 2015, and the 26^th on October 20 to 23, 2016.
In September 2015, the Really Local Harvest Co-op will hold Dieppe's 10^th annual Harvest Festival. Activities include several music and dance performances featuring local artists, a painting demonstration and a presentation on the history of agriculture in the region.
In November 2015, Film Zone will present the 29^th Festival international du cinéma francophone en Acadie. Activities include film-making workshops, the screening of more than 20 films by local directors, and a musical performance featuring local artists.
