July 6, 2015 – Lakeshore, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Today, residents and officials celebrated the groundbreaking of the next phase of Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Centre. Officially opened in September 2014, the new athletic complex includes an arena with three ice pads, a gymnasium, a dance studio, an indoor walking track, a library, meeting rooms and a banquet hall.
The second phase of construction will include an indoor aquatic centre consisting of four lap lanes, a lazy river, a therapeutic pool and a shallow pool area. Outside, a splash pad, soccer fields, recreational courts and a five-kilometre multi-purpose trail for walking, running, cycling and skateboarding will be built. These new features will further provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to lead healthy lives by getting fit and staying active, creating a hub of recreation facilities with a variety of programs for residents of all ages. This phase is scheduled to be complete in summer 2016.
"Lakeshore's Atlas Tube Centre will continue to benefit residents and visitors of the area by offering athletic, social and educational programming. Our Government is proud to provide significant funding for this project as we focus on creating jobs, promoting growth and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada. One way we are doing so is through our $53-billion New Building Canada Plan, which was designed to support infrastructure projects of national, regional and local significance."
