Project made possible thanks to the New Building Canada Plan
July 31, 2015 – Edmonton, Alberta– Infrastructure Canada
The governments of Canada and Alberta are providing funding for 56 infrastructure projects in communities across the province under the New Building Canada Plan’s Small Communities Fund.
Funding for these projects will help Alberta communities improve drinking water and wastewater systems, major roads, disaster mitigation, public transit, and solid waste management. Once complete, the work will significantly improve key municipal services for residents and help boost regional development.
The Small Communities Fund is part of the $10-billion Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component of the New Building Canada Fund. It is providing $1 billion to municipalities with fewer than 100,000 residents for priority public infrastructure projects that deliver on local needs. These investments support job creation and economic growth, thus sustaining a high quality of life in small communities across Alberta for years to come.
"Our government is proud to be making unprecedented investments in public infrastructure across Alberta. Through the federal Small Communities Fund, we will help get 56 projects going across the province to help improve drinking water, handle wastewater more effectively, make solid waste management better, improve public transit, and upgrade disaster mitigation."
