August 31, 2015 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
Planète+ and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) today announced a new agreement that will see Planète+ showcasing the high quality of Canadian documentaries: a wonderful opportunity for viewers to discover or rediscover Oscar winners and other award-winning classics.
On a new program titled Les samedis de l’ONF, Planète+ will be airing close to 50 Canadian documentaries selected from the NFB’s iconic collection, from September 2015 to June 2016.
Every Saturday evening at 8, premiering September 5, 2015, viewers will have a chance to watch must-see documentaries that tell our stories and explore our social issues.
Since it was founded, Planète+ has been showing a wide variety of high-calibre, informative and impassioned documentaries from around the world. As the new season starts, alongside its international programming Planète+ wanted to offer its viewers a Canadian perspective on current issues by airing home-grown documentaries—a perspective in keeping with the NFB’s mission.
On Les samedis de l’ONF in September, Planète+ will be showing four documentaries you won’t want to miss:
Vie pigmentée [Hue: A Matter of Colour] (directed by Vic Sarin)
Vues d’Afrique / Journées du cinéma africain et créole – Montreal – Best Independent Production
A favourite of the Planète+ team, this hard-hitting documentary is an emotional portrayal of colourism, where people discriminate against one another based on differences in skin tone.
Le ring intérieur [The Ring Within] (directed by Dan Bigras)
FIPA Award – Biarritz / Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois / Genie Award
A documentary that takes us into the ring to see that the wounds of childhood can only start to heal when combatants are on their last legs and can’t punch any more.
Les chariots de l’enfer [Carts of Darkness] (directed by Murray Siple)
Best Documentary – Picture This Film Festival – Calgary / Best Documentary – Leo Award – Vancouver
From collecting empties to racing shopping carts, the lives of a group of homeless men are explored in this compelling documentary.
Les seigneurs de l’Arctique [Lords of the Arctic] (directed by Jean Lemire and Caroline Underwood)
Gemini Award – Toronto / Earthwatch Award – Washington / EarthVision Award – Santa Cruz
This ambitious documentary asks a worrying question about this huge territory: What price will have to be paid if this kingdom disappears?
