August 19, 2015 - Cavendish Beach, Prince Edward Island - Parks Canada
Come and visit Prince Edward Island National Park and learn about the many species who share the Island. The 6th annual BioBlitz will take place from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on August 20.
BioBlitz participants will be given a map to each of the four habitat stations. At each station, there will be interpreters and hands-on activities to help participants discover the natural environment in Prince Edward Island National Park.
The BioBlitz will provide answers to popular questions like why are there so many jellyfish near our shores; where does poison ivy flourish; where do the Great Blue Herons make their nests?
This activity will familiarize visitors with the plants and animals that live in the four major ecosystems protected in PEI National Park: the seashore, the marsh, the pond and the forest. Activity stations will be located at Lake of Shining Waters (freshwater ecosystem), Cavendish Grove Trail (forest ecosystem), the Homestead Trail (marsh ecosystem), and Cavendish Beach (coastal ecosystem). Participants are encouraged to engage PEI National Park biologists, interpreters, and other Island environmental experts to answer questions about displays or items of interest along the way.
