Quick facts
- “Battlefields Park, a focal point of Canadian heritage nestled between the St. Lawrence River, Old Québec, and the city’s historic fortifications, stands out for the number and beauty of its mature trees. These majestic specimens create a spectacular landscape in keeping with the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage. This impressive canopy also provides the city with shade and oxygen. The willingness of the managers and employees to preserve the trees is reflected in the quality of care they provide. A number of trees marked with an insignia are sponsored by residents, demonstrating a clear sense of belonging. This urban forest provides thousands of visitors and nearby residents with an oasis of fresh air and relaxation that contributes to the spirit of the place!” wrote volunteer judges Sylvie Cormier and Rachelle George-Bernard after visiting the park.
- Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on enhancing green spaces in communities. The pride, community spirit, and sense of accomplishment that participants feel are visible in Canadian communities.
- Battlefields Park was created over one hundred years ago. It includes, among other features, the Plains of Abraham and Des Braves Park. Today, the National Battlefields Commission oversees the preservation and development of this magnificent urban park, which ranks among the most prestigious in the world. Often referred to as the lungs of the city, this central rallying site attracts four million local and foreign visitors annually.
