October 19, 2015 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
A National Film Board of Canada (NFB) film in the Focus – Short Film program of the 44th Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) received an award during the festival’s closing ceremony on October 17. Theodore Ushev’s Blood Manifesto won the Prix créativité, which is presented by MAtv and awarded to the most original short film in the Focus competition. The jury was composed of Daniel Ebner, Mike Plante and Seigo Tono.
After participating in national and international festivals, including the Holland Animation Film Festival, Encounters Film Festival (United Kingdom) and the Vancouver International Film Festival, Theodore Ushev presented his film at FNC, where it had its Quebec premiere. The filmmaker used his own blood to animate this daring political statement, which asks whether one should fight for ideals, noble though they may be, if one must die for them in the end.

Blood Manifesto, 2 min
QUEBEC PREMIERE AT FNC 2015
Theodore Ushev animated this brutal and disturbing political statement using his own blood, and his gravelly, emotion-charged voice provides the narration. Poetic, philosophical, and fundamentally disillusioned and cynical, this striking film leaves viewers shaken by its compelling themes and thought-provoking interplay of symbols.
Blood Manifesto was directed by Theodore Ushev and produced by Marcy Page and Jelena Popovic. Michael Fukushima is the executive producer at the NFB’s English Animation studio.
