Regional Tariff Response Initiative
The Government of Canada has announced a $1.5 billion expansion of the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by tariffs, and will include additional support for liquidity needs in addition to the existing support for capital investment or business pivot projects.
- Eligible businesses could be provided non-repayable contributions up to a maximum of $3 million, for a combination of up to $1 million for an eligible investment project and up to $2 million for eligible liquidity support.
- To be eligible, SMEs must have been viable prior to the imposition of tariffs and have annual revenue of at least $1 million.
Details regarding the enhancement of the RTRI, including liquidity support measures designed to address pressures arising from tariffs, will be available on September 8, 2026.
