Town halls

Join us for a town hall

The Federal Ombudsperson for Victims of Crime would like to hold Town Halls across the country to hear about Canadians' experiences with the criminal justice system, their concerns, and ideas for how to improve it, with a focus on federal legislation, programs and policies that affect victims of crime.

Why are we doing this?

The objective of the Town Halls is to let the experiences, concerns, and ideas of Canadians who have been affected by crime and who have engaged with the criminal justice system inform the work of the OFOVC.

Because the Ombudsperson would like to take a victim-centred, trauma-informed approach to the work that we do, learning about how victims, service providers, and others at the community level are affected by federal policies, programs, and services for victims of crime is necessary to guide our way forward. If the needs of our stakeholders are identified and heard, the OFOVC can make sure that they are communicated to decision-makers at the federal level through policy recommendations made by our Office. This is also an opportunity for the OFOVC to build partnerships at the community level and across sectors to further open the lines of communication, to share best practices, and work together to promote new initiatives and events.
