Dear Deputy Minister Hogue,

Congratulations on your appointment as Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General of Canada. I look forward to collaborating with you as we support the Minister of Justice and Attorney General. Our team operates at arm’s length from Justice Canada. As Federal Ombudsperson for Victims of Crime, my role is to report to and act as a special advisor to the Minister.

The enclosed transition book provides an overview of our Office and our current priorities.

I look forward to our first meeting, and I’d be happy to provide more context or details should you have more in-depth questions on the attached material.

I remain dedicated to collaborating closely with your Office and the Government of Canada throughout the remainder of my mandate to advance meaningful progress for victims of crime. I am confident that we are united in our commitment to protecting victims’ rights and ensuring that all victims and survivors are treated with dignity and respect at every point in their interactions with the criminal justice system.

Yours sincerely,
