Parks Canada hosts a flurry of December events at William Lyon Mackenzie King’s boyhood home

Parks Canada invites visitors to discover the delights of a Victorian holiday and feel the magic of the season at Woodside National Historic Site.

Experience our festive programmes and explore the richly decorated rooms every Wednesday through Saturday from December 2 until December 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Parks Canada is pleased to offer three special holiday events including: Christmas Mementos, Lamplight, and Christmas Cheer. Advance registration is required, as space is limited. Please call 519-571-8684 before December 2 to register.

Christmas Mementos - Discover the enchantment of a Christmas morning reminiscent of the King family. Decorate your very own cookie ornament to take home. Dip a pen in ink and write a letter to St. Nicholas. $7.80 per person. Saturday, December 5 and Saturday, December 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Lamplight – Experience a Woodside Christmas by the soft glow of lamplight. Cozy up under the mistletoe and enjoy hot apple cider. After exploring our grounds, warm up by the crackling fire and savour roasted chestnuts. $7.80 per person. Thursday, December 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Christmas Cheer - Delight in the spirit of a Victorian holiday season as you explore this beautifully decorated home with our costumed guides. Hear a selection of festive music from the era, while sampling seasonal baking with tea and coffee. $14.70 per person. Saturday, December 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our heritage. Canada’s national parks and national historic sites enable Canadians to experience their rich history and heritage in a special way and will play a big part in Canada’s anniversary celebrations.

Quick Facts

  • Originally built in 1853, Woodside National Historic Site has been reconstructed and restored to represent the period of the Kings' residence, 1886-93. 
  • Today, the historic house is known for bringing Victorian charm to seasonal events in the community, providing visitors and residents with a tranquil escape as they wander its beautiful heritage grounds, open year-round.
