Join Parks Canada for a Garrison Christmas event in picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake

Parks Canada invites visitors to discover the sights, sounds and delectable aromas of a Regency Christmas during Fort George National Historic Site’s weekend-long Garrison Christmas programme on Saturday, December 12 and Sunday, December 13 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Experience hot chocolate and sugar biscuits by the glow of the hearth fire in the Officers’ kitchen. Admire the period decorations in the Officers’ Quarters while making a traditional decoration to take home. Play games with the soldiers and their families in the barrack or write a Christmas card to a Canadian soldier serving overseas. Find inspiration for last minute gifts as you browse through the Friends of Fort George gift shop. Finish your afternoon with a bang at a musket demonstration. An annual family holiday event not to be missed. Regular admission rates apply.

As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience and learn more about our environment and our heritage. Canada’s national parks and national historic sites enable Canadians to experience their rich history and heritage in a special way and will play a big part in the Canada’s anniversary celebrations.

- Fort George was a military post that defended Upper Canada against American attacks during the War of 1812.
- 200 years ago, snow-shoeing, ice-skating and community or private balls were popular ways for officers, soldiers and their families to celebrate the holidays.
- From December through the end of March, Fort George National Historic Site is open on weekends from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
