Parks Canada Recognizes Student Achievement at Provincial Heritage Fair

Students receive awards for outstanding projects

Parks Canada presented two speciality prizes and one Parks Canada award to four Island students at the Provincial Heritage Fair on May 19. The awards were presented to students for their outstanding projects on a national historic site on Prince Edward Island or a person, place, or event of national historic significance.
Parks Canada specialty awards were given to: Thomas Dale, a grade 7 student at Stonepark Intermediate School for his project “Home Children”; and Jake Henderson, a grade 6 student at West Royalty Elementary School for his project “Sir Frederick Banting – My Hero, My Saviour”.
The Parks Canada Award for the best heritage fair project portraying a person, place, or event of national historic significance was awarded at the closing ceremonies to Angelina Ning and Minnie Jin, grade 8 students at Grace Christian School for their exceptional project “Norman Bethune: The Hero of China”.
Parks Canada is proud to support Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Heritage Fair and to work with partners to recognize and support youth educational opportunities related to Canada’s cultural heritage.

- Parks Canada protects and presents National Historic Sites because they tell stories of who we are, including the history, cultures and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Parks Canada administers six national historic sites on PEI: Green Gables Heritage Place, Port-la-Joye—Fort Amherst, Province House, Dalvay-by-the-Sea and Ardgowan.
- The Provincial Heritage Fair is organized by the Department of Education, Early Learning and Culture, PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, Parks Canada and Community Museums Association of PEI, and is a celebration of Canada’s heritage. Students in grade 5 to 9 have the opportunity to present projects with a history theme related to their families, communities, province, or country.
