The Manoir Papineau National Historic Site Opens its Doors for a New Season

News Release

May 19, 2016                                        Montebello, Quebec                                          Parks Canada Agency

The Manoir Papineau National Historic Site will open its doors from May 21 to October 10, 2016 for a new season. True to the bourgeois traditions of the nineteenth century, staff will welcome visitors with all the etiquette typical of the time and will open rooms traditionally reserved for residents of the manor.

To better understand the magnitude of the grand estate, visitors will want to visit the granary and its old photographs exhibit, the tea pavilion and the Papineaus’ chapel, and explore the beautiful wooded area and the gardens surrounding the manor.

Manoir Papineau was the residence of Louis-Joseph Papineau which he built in Montebello after a prolific political career. He retired there and devoted himself to his family, his passion for botany, his books, and the administration of the lands of the Seigneury of La Petite-Nation. Today, a visit to the manor will captivate both nature lovers and history buffs.

As we approach the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government invites all Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history at national parks and national historic sites this summer.
