The Battle of the Châteauguay National Historic Site launches its new season

The Battle of the Châteauguay National Historic Site will open its doors from June 18 to September 5, 2016 for an all-new season. Visitors will discover a site where a crucial page of Canadian history was written on October 26, 1813.
Among the special events planned this year, the site will welcome the second edition of the event Canadian Military History in the Spotlight and 0-5-30 Challenge. In addition, historic re-enactments by the Canadian Voltigeurs, Canada Day celebrations and activities during Archaeology Month will bring the site to life. All these activities make it the perfect opportunity to come and enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the rich history of the site.
As we near the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the Government of Canada invites Canadians to experience Canada’s remarkable natural heritage and rich history in national parks and national historic sites this summer.
Quick facts
- The Battle of the Châteauguay National Historic Site will be open daily from June 18 to September 5, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- The Interpretation Centre and the groomed trail will help visitors learn about the events of October 26, 1813 and the ingenious strategies of Lieutenant-Colonel Charles-Michel de Salaberry.
- The groomed trail of the battlefield, with covers 15 km, is accessible on foot or on bike. Thirteen beacons, located between Ormstown and Howick, tell the fascinating story of this landmark day.
- Visitors will be able to visit the chess room, a room depicting the living conditions of the militia, a genealogy station as well as the belvedere and its interactive scale model.
- On Canada Day, the public can visit the historic site free of charge.
- On July 9 and 10, the Canadian Voltigeurs will present a historical re-enactment.
- The second edition of Canadian Military History in the Spotlight and 0-5-30 Challenge will be held on September 3 and 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
